"I am looking for a panoramic or fisheye security camera that can record 360 degrees at once, so it can cover the sides of my house and cars on the street simultaneously."

If you also need a panoramic security camera or a fisheye CCTV IP camera, read this post for all-round information.

What Is a Panoramic Fisheye Security Camera

A panoramic fisheye security camera is the IP surveillance camera that enables you to simultaneously monitor an area overview from a fisheye model (or from a fisheye camera lens), offering you a wider field of view, up to 360 degrees.

Now the outdoor fisheye security cameras come with various types, using either a combination of multiple image sensors or a single fisheye (ultra-wide angle) lens.

In terms of the angle of panoramic view, there are 180 degree panoramic security cameras and 360 degree fisheye IP cameras.

A 360-degree fisheye and panoramic security camera enables 360° surround view without blind spots, ideal for surveillance applications that require wide area coverage in a single view.

As for the 180 panoramic security cameras, they can provide full situational awareness when installed on a wall, in corridors or reception areas.

Thanks to the advent of fisheye and panoramic IP security cameras, they offer not only a new breed of security camera systems, but also another cost-effective option for comprehensive security.

How Do Panoramic Security Cameras Work

A panoramic fisheye surveillance camera works a little differently from a fixed bullet IP camera or a fixed dome IP camera.

The fisheye global view and a speed dome camera accomplish a 360-dgree seamless surveillance solution, and the fisheye security camera's global view is used as the "command" unit to detect events across an entire area.

A panoramic security camera, or a fisheye CCTV IP camera, can be used to detect activities in a large area, like a crossroad, a house front yard, a home back yard, a dining room, a living room, an office, a retail store, warehouses, parking lots, stadiums, museums, concert halls, and ports.

What Are the Advantages of Panoramic Fisheye Security Cameras

So, why should you choose the panoramic or fisheye security cameras? The following benefits of fisheye panoramic IP cameras will be the best answers.

Better yet, using fisheye home security cameras can also reduce your cost on security camera accessories such as protective skins, wirings, power cables, etc., and save you the installation time as well as follow-up maintenance.

3. Fisheye Panoramic IP Cameras Feature Reliable Performance

The panoramic and fisheye security cameras are capable to deliver 360° panorama view without image distortion, ensuing no single details would slip away without your notice.

Tips on the Installation of Fisheye Security Cameras

The panoramic fisheye security cameras, in virtue of the compact and non-intrusive design, are easy to blend into the surroundings and suitable for a seamless 360-degree panoramic monitoring setup.

To take full advantage of the fisheye CCTV cameras, check out the following installation tips below before you start off.

  • Avoid placing a 360 fisheye security camera in or near a corner, as the walls will hinder its panoramic view and thus the lens couldn't be made full use of.
  • If you plan to install a panoramic fisheye IP camera to the ceilings, make sure the camera is located in the center of the monitoring zone, otherwise the images will be reshaped.
  • Keep the panoramic security cameras away from the air conditioner vents and electric entrance doors.
  • Make sure the fisheye CCTV IP cameras are not near to the ceiling lamps or indicator light, which will interfere in the image signal and affect the camera's image quality.
  • Stable the 180 degree or 360 degree fisheye security camera with expansion screws to prevent it from falling down over a long period of time.

Where to Buy a Panoramic and Fisheye Security Camera

You can buy a panoramic security camera in a retail store located in your area, or from online stores at Amazon, Best buy, eBay, etc. A variety of fisheye security camera models are now available for indoor and outdoor security.

Does reolink have plans for a wide angle lens camera? I would love one for my front and back yard, it's a wide area to cover with not much depth.

    • Reolink says:

Yes. We have plans for this kind of panoramic security cameras. You can follow us to get the latest news, say follow us on Facebook and Twitter, or subscribe to our newsletter to get the latest information. And we will update you once this camera is available.

          • Matt says:

I currently have the RLK16-410B8 cams and in several areas I wish these cameras had a wider angle. In some instances a Fisheye would be ideal. What would you suggest?

          • Reolink says:

Yeah, a wider angle is ideal. Reolink security cameras now can reach up to 120° viewing angle. Anyway, many customers prefer the PTZ cam — RLC-423, for it can 360° pan, 90° tilt and 4x optically zoom. That means almost every angle is covered. This cam can work perfectly with RLK16-410B8 kit. I think it's a good choice for you. What do you think?

          • Tony Lopes says:

The problem I have with my PTZ camera where I'd like a wider view (fisheye) is in detecting motion. If you try to do motion detect while the camera is moving (cruising), it doesn't work well. Whereas if you have a fixed wide angle fisheye camera, you could still do motion detection over the entire range.

          • BIG D says:

i total agree with you. panaramic cameras are getting hot and popular. i dont understand why reolink isnt on the band wagon(guessing some market scheme to first reduce stock inorder to reinvest into new technologies. few years ago reolink commented that they had plans and a year later contradict themselves to no plans. dont get me wrong reolink cameras are amazing but ptz is not capable of viewing whats going on behind itself such as a panaramic can catch every moment not missing a beat.

          • cnnspy says:

For the same reason execs in America were left behind by the Chinese when security cams were not yet popular. They believed cameras would mever become popular outside commercial use. They STILL fail to see the emerging market opportunities and end up missing the ship...again.

          • ChristCrusader says:

Probably rather sell 3 or 4 cameras with 120 or 90 degree views than only a single 360.
4 cameras go with an nvr + 4x cabling.
1 camera is a standalone, or in groups still need fewer cables and ports.

          • cnnspy says:

I think a fisheye is wonderful in an area where thieves frequent as they are not made aware they are being watched. If a ptz has to be panned, its sound alerts the thief who would leave the area quickly and have less chance of apprehension. Also a ptz does not automatically know what to watch for to concentrate on that area if not already pointed there. I caught a mail theif robbing my mailbox with a cheap ebay $15 fisheye and would like something better that is further along than just in planning stage.

  2. Donald Zeller says:

Is there a DVR that works with Fish eye cameras specifically. I am having problems finding a dvr that will support Fish eyes. Let me clarify, I can get almost any dvr on the market to record the camera and display it, but I have not found a standalone dvr that has the 360 degree functions except ClickIt.

    • Yolanda says:

Hello Donald, you may try to consult the tech team from the security camera brands that sells 360 degree fish eye security cameras. They may produce DVRs that support 360-degree function or they may provide you with a list of DVRs that come with this function from any other brands. Hope this helps.

  3. Jordan Beukelman says:

    Hello,
I am looking to get a fisheye camera that is compatable with a Reolink system. Does Reolink plan to make one or is their one that will work with the NVR system?

    • Yolanda says:

Reolink doesn't plan to release any fisheye cameras soon. Generally speaking, any PoE/WiFi fisheye IP cameras, not analog ones, shall work with the Reolink NVR system. Hope this helps.

  4. Timothy Burkett says:

I am looking for a fisheye camera that is compatible with a Reolink NVR. Can you suggest a NVR and a Fisheyecamera that are compatible and controllable. I have 9 Stationary Reolink cameras already so I want to stay with Reolink.

    • Yolanda says:

Hi, there. You can choose the NVR according to how many cameras you are gonna connect to it. For example, if you want to connect all your 9 Reolink cameras to your NVR, I suggest you the RLN16-410, which support 16 cams at most. As for the fisheye camera, if you want to have a 360-degree field of view with the camera, I'll recommend you our newest RLC-523WA camera: https://reolink.com/us/product/rlc-523wa/

  5. Fiona says:
