Easy to Add to Existing Homes

For terraced, semi-detached, and detached homes, adding a wired camera may require running new cables through exterior walls or across the property. Argus cameras use rechargeable batteries and Wi-Fi, allowing them to be installed with much less wiring.

High-resolution video, two-way audio, and smart person detection also make them practical for front doors and entrances, where users may want to identify and communicate with visitors directly through the Reolink App.

Flexible Coverage for Gardens and Driveways

Different areas around a UK home require different types of coverage. Argus includes fixed-view, pan-and-tilt, and dual-lens options for different layouts.

For example, a fixed camera can monitor a front door or narrow side passage, while models with 355° pan and 140° tilt can cover a larger rear garden. For wide driveways and front gardens, dual-lens models such as Argus 4 Pro provide a 180° panoramic view, helping reduce blind spots without installing multiple cameras.

Battery and Solar Power for Outbuildings and Off-Grid Areas

Rechargeable battery power makes Argus cameras useful for locations where mains electricity is unavailable or difficult to extend. Compatible models can also connect to Reolink Solar Panel, allowing the battery to recharge using solar energy.

This makes the series practical for garden sheds, detached garages, allotments, stables, and farm buildings. As Argus cameras use Wi-Fi, these locations still require suitable Wi-Fi coverage; sites without Wi-Fi are better suited to a 4G/LTE camera.

Smarter Monitoring Day and Night

Argus cameras can distinguish people, vehicles, and animals on supported models, helping reduce alerts caused by less relevant movement around gardens and driveways. PIR motion detection also allows battery-powered models to detect activity while conserving power when no event is occurring.

Night vision options vary across the series. Selected models provide spotlight colour night vision, while ColorX-equipped models can capture full-colour footage in low-light environments, giving users different options for entrances, driveways, and gardens after dark.

Local Storage Without a Required Subscription

Argus cameras support local recording, including microSD storage on compatible models, so recorded events can be stored without a required monthly subscription. Selected models can also work with Reolink Home Hub for centralised local storage and management of multiple cameras around the property.

What Is Reolink Argus?

Reolink Argus is Reolink's flagship series of battery-powered security cameras that connect via Wi-Fi, allowing flexible installation without Ethernet or permanent power wiring. The series includes fixed, pan-and-tilt, and dual-lens models for monitoring front doors, gardens, driveways, garages, and other areas around the home.

Popular models include the Argus 4 Pro, Argus PT Ultra, and Argus Track, offering options like color night vision, 4K video, and smart motion detection.

How to Pick the Best Reolink Argus Camera for Your Needs?

The best Reolink Argus camera depends on where you plan to install it, the level of detail you need, and the conditions around your property. For UK homes, consider the following factors:

Choose Based on Video Quality: Video resolution plays a key role in how much detail your camera can capture. If you need sharp images, a 4K camera like the Argus 4 Pro is the best choice. For general home security, 2K+ HD cameras provide a good balance between clarity and battery efficiency.

Choose Based on Coverage Area: The size of the area you want to monitor will determine whether you need a fixed or PTZ camera. PTZ (pan-tilt-zoom) cameras, such as the Argus PT Ultra, are ideal for large spaces because they can move and track motion. In contrast, fixed-lens cameras are better suited for smaller and focused areas.

Choose Based on Smart Features: Argus cameras come with a range of smart features that enhance security and convenience. Auto-tracking allows the camera to follow moving objects automatically. Color night vision provides clearer nighttime footage compared to standard infrared. Smart detection can distinguish between people, vehicles, and animals, reducing false alerts and improving overall efficiency.

Choose Based on Power and Placement: Consider how easy the camera will be to recharge after installation. Solar-compatible models are more convenient for gardens, garages, sheds, and other outdoor locations that receive sufficient daylight.

Consider the Installation Environment: For exposed outdoor locations, check weather resistance and operating temperature. Also make sure the installation point has reliable Wi-Fi coverage, particularly for cameras positioned farther from the house on garages, sheds, or other outbuildings.

Does Reolink Argus need WiFi?

Yes, Reolink Argus cameras need a Wi-Fi connection for remote access and most connected features, including live viewing, push notifications, and control through the Reolink App.

If Wi-Fi becomes unavailable, the camera can still detect motion and record footage locally to a microSD card. However, you won't be able to remotely access the camera, receive real-time alerts, or change settings through the app until the Wi-Fi connection is restored.

How to Reset Reolink Argus Series Cameras?

To reset a Reolink Argus Series camera, make sure the device is powered on. Locate the reset button (usually near the microSD card slot), then press and hold it for about 5–10 seconds until you hear a prompt or see an indicator.

After the reset, the camera will return to factory settings, and all configurations will be erased. You’ll need to set it up again in the Reolink app.

What Is the Difference between Argus 4 and Argus 4 Pro?

The biggest difference between Argus 4 and Argus 4 Pro is night vision technology.

- Argus 4 uses traditional infrared and spotlight-based color night vision
- Argus 4 Pro uses ColorX technology, which delivers full-color images at night without needing a spotlight

What Is the difference between Altas PT Ultra and Argus PT Ultra?

The Altas PT Ultra is designed for more advanced, near-continuous surveillance with better night imaging, while the Argus PT Ultra focuses on affordability and standard smart security features.

- Choose Altas PT Ultra if you want better Reolink ColorX night vision, longer battery life, and more advanced recording
- Choose Argus PT Ultra if you want a more affordable 4K PTZ camera for everyday security
